We are thrilled to announce that John has joined Safety & Access as our new Scaffold Training Manager, overseeing all training activities both in the UK and overseas. With over 37 years of scaffolding experience, John brings unparalleled expertise and a deep passion for the trade to our team.
John’s scaffolding journey began in 1987 on a youth training scheme. By 17, he had completed his Part 1 qualification, followed by Part 2 at 18 and his Advanced Scaffold training at just 22. From those early days, he gained hands-on experience across a wide range of sectors, including petrochemical sites, offshore installations, oil refineries, and major projects like the Millennium Dome (now The O2).
Throughout his career, John has worn many hats, from scaffolder to supervisor with SGB in Edinburgh, and later as a contract manager at Power Group. He moved to Great Yarmouth to work on the Yarmouth Power Station before fully stepping into management. At the age of 43, John transitioned into training, where he discovered his true calling—sharing his wealth of knowledge with the next generation of scaffolders.
John is highly skilled in delivering a comprehensive range of CISRS courses, including COTS, Part 1, Part 2, Advanced, Basic Scaffold Inspection (BSI), Advanced Scaffold Inspection (ASI), and CISRS overseas training. He also delivers training on proprietary systems such as Layher, Cuplock, HAKI, and others. In addition, he is experienced in delivering CITB Site Safety Plus courses, making him an invaluable asset to our training team.
John previously headed up our training facility in Humberside and we are excited to have John back on board and look forward to the positive impact his leadership and expertise will bring to Safety & Access.
Welcome, John!
