Roof Edge Protection Systems
Protect everyone who steps onto your roof, with no harnesses, no training and no holes in the membrane. Kee Guard is permanent, collective protection at the roof edge.

The first line of defence at the roof edge
Roof edge protection is any barrier that stops a fall from a roof edge before it happens. Unlike personal fall arrest, which relies on a harness and a trained user, edge protection is collective: once installed, it protects everyone on the roof with no extra equipment.
Because the risk sits at the edge itself, a guardrail is usually the first control measure a competent person should reach for when a risk assessment finds a fall hazard on a flat roof.

Protection that respects your roof
Kee Guard is one of the most widely specified freestanding guardrails in the UK. We supply and install it to suit your roof type, pitch and access needs.
Collective fall protection
A continuous physical barrier around the edge that protects every worker, not just those wearing PPE.
Freestanding design
Counterbalanced and sitting on the roof surface, so it won't compromise waterproofing or your roof warranty.
Durable construction
Galvanised steel engineered for UK weather and decades of stable use.
Modular system
Components follow your exact perimeter, including curved and irregular edges.
Customisable finishes
Specify different coatings, or a folding guardrail that sits flush when not needed.
Specialist installers
Height safety and roof access specialists since 1991, with 30+ years of experience.
Types of Kee Guard rooftop guardrail
Post-mounted guardrail
For tighter spaces or roofs where a full counterweighted base isn't practical. Can be combined with counterweights or fixed independently.
Metal roof guardrail
Designed for standing seam and metal profile roofs, handling pitches up to 45° without penetrating the roof.
Folding guardrail
Folds out of sight when not in use, then locks back up for safe access. Ideal for public and heritage buildings.
Kee Guard installations
Freestanding guardrail installed on flat, pitched, standing seam and membrane roofs across the UK.
Specified, documented and inspected to the right standard
Every Kee Guard installation is planned around your roof type, wind exposure and access frequency, and comes with the System Technical File required under BS 13700:2021.
Permanent counterweighted guardrails need an annual inspection by a competent person. We can carry this out as part of your maintenance plan.

From survey to annual inspection
Survey
We assess roof type, pitch, perimeter, wind exposure and how often the roof is accessed.
Design
We specify the right Kee Guard configuration and prepare the System Technical File.
Install
Our engineers install the guardrail with no penetration of your roof membrane.
Inspect
Annual inspections check height, configuration, counterweights, fixings and corrosion.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about roof edge protection. Can't see yours? Our team is happy to help.
Is edge protection a legal requirement in the UK?
No single law names “edge protection”, but the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require employers to prevent falls wherever reasonably practicable. At a roof edge, that almost always means a guardrail or equivalent collective protection.
What height should a roof guardrail be?
Building Regulations Part K guidance and industry standards generally expect a minimum of 1,100mm at roof edges, though the exact requirement depends on the application and risk assessment.
Does Kee Guard damage the roof?
No. It is a freestanding, counterbalanced system that sits on the roof surface without penetrating the membrane, so it won't affect waterproofing or void a roof warranty.
How often does a roof guardrail need inspecting?
Under BS 13700:2021, permanent counterweighted guardrails must be inspected annually by a competent person.
What is the difference between permanent and temporary edge protection?
Permanent freestanding guardrails like Kee Guard are for ongoing roof access and fall under BS 13700:2021. Temporary edge protection for construction or short-term work is covered by EN 13374 and classed A to C by roof pitch and load.
Can edge protection be used on any roof?
Kee Guard configurations cover flat roofs, standing seam and metal profile roofs up to 45°, and curved or irregular perimeters. A site survey confirms the right option.
